I’m turning 35 next month! I know that exclamation point is meant to convey a symbolic ‘yaye’, but in all honesty… am I really turning 35? That’s what I keep asking myself. Each time I ask it I find the same answer. Yes. Now to learn to live with it. In an effort to bring some genuine excitement to my next and fast approaching birthday, I decided, as I often try to do when I become too me-centric in my thinking, to make this about other people. People whose worries are far more legitimate than my worry about the fact that I am way past being a 20 something, and now am no longer in my early 30′s…. I know, so tragic!
But what is really and actually tragic is that nearly 1 billion people on the planet do not have access to clean and safe drinking water. Can you imagine that? No clean water. That means no chance of taking a nice relaxing shower after a hard day, no way to wash clothes or cook, no possibility of being optimally healthy. But we can’t survive without water. So these folks have to venture out to collect water polluted by all sorts of dangerous things and they drink that water, and bathe and cook with it too. Many children die. Others develop serious diseases. Many can’t go to school or work because their lives revolve around fetching this contaminated water which sometimes takes half the day to get to and then the other half to bring back home.
I’m not ok with this. And as my 35th birthday approaches I would really like to give the gift of clean water to 35 people. Will you help me with this? Will you donate to my charity:water campaign and share the link with your friends? My birthday is June 24th. That leaves us but a few weeks! If I can achieve this goal I’ll be filled with joy. Not because the goal was reached, but because behind that goal are 35 real human beings, just like you and me, whose lives matter just as much and who should have access to basic and extremely vital needs, such as clean water. Let’s make this happen together!
Click here to access my campaign page. There are suggested donation amounts that correlate to my turning 35, but please just donate whatever amount you can.
Thank you so much for helping me fulfill my birthday wish!
Love,
Dara
